Lesson 14

Our second e-learning project for egd and as expected this one was much harder than the first one. We had a choice to choose between beginner, intermediate and advanced. I did the beginner one but it was not an easy task at all. I had to do an abstract poster design where the end product is supposed to look something like this.

So i had to start off basically drawing a small triangle using the grid lines to make it proportionate and surround it with some whacky random shapes and make some little cuts. This was what i had

Not too many issues so far but of course it was just a start, although the making of the small random shapes and filling them were a bit time consuming.

Next i had to make another triangle, bigger than the first one, just surrounding it and only filling a third of it with random shapes.

The piece is now starting to take shape, so next i had to add one more triangle in the middle and use some brushes to give it some effects. This part was challenging and time consuming as i had to look through many brushes to get the desired spots shown in the example. Also cutting and adding the roots to the picture, i learnt a new tool called the magnetic lasso tool.

It does not look as similar to the example but i guess some originality is good. Skipping some minor details and blending, i will just move on to the next part. So as you can see the shape is different than the example, to get that shape, another new tool was used and that was the perspective tool. This tool transforms and changes the shape of the piece and the outcome was excellent.

The last few steps were to use the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the shape of the hand and spread it wider, and place it in the middle, also using blending, brightness and contrast adjustments to make it look nicer. Add in a background and this was my final turn out.

I think the final outcome is a pretty decent one but more importantly, i learnt many things from this assignment such as some new tools, for example the magnetic lasso tool and the perspective tool. Definitely one of the tougher assignments i have done and one of the more time consuming ones but i feel this assignment has taught me many new skills.

lesson 13

It was e-learning week and therefore lessons were done online. For studio A lesson we had to create a poster using typography and some pictures. This is the expected outcome of our work.

To start of we had to type out the words to fill up a black background and then tilt it 45 degrees clockwise, a pretty simple start and not much issues faced yet.

Next i had to drag the image of the model into the canvas, re size it and resize it. Once that was  done i had to inverse select the text and delete the photo contents. It was just as confusing as it sounded as i had a lot of trouble trying to elect and invert select the required text and deleting the right part of the picture. After 5 minutes i got it and the text nicely followed the colour of the background. Just did some adjustments to the brightness and contrast and had this.

The last step was to just add the text "Dj music, only the best hits" and put effects like outer glow to make it stand out. This was my final piece.

In conclusion the project itself although sounded fairly simple, it actually took me more time than expected. Some things such as the invert selection caused me problems but it was overcame, mainly because i the keys on my mac were different than the instructions so it was a silly mistake made. So that was part 1 of my egd e-learning complete.
