1) Consistency
For our project we have to create an 8 page newsletter, so our tutor emphasised how the design should be consistent. Consistency refers to something such as colour combination or another example is alignment. There should be a good flow in the design. For example, the design does not necessarily have the same colours or secondary text but the design is consistent and nice.
2) Tools
For our project there is no way we are going to find any perfect picture at once and and use it straight away in our newsletter, we have to do edits. However indesign is not for editing pictures, it is for putting everything together and hence we still have to use the other tools such as photoshop and illustrator(if needed)
3) Fundamentals
-Colour
Colours used have to be consistent as mentioned earlier and different contrast of colours can also attract attention.
-Layout
This refers to how the contents in the newsletter is placed and if there is a balance between the logo, pictures, headline and words etc
-Typography
The font used, kerning and paragraph spacing that goes into the newsletter which is very important
4) Audience
Knowing the target audience will be key to the design, for example if designing for an older audience, giving it a classic look may be a good idea.
In conclusion, when designing and discussing our ideas, these factors have to be looked into closely to get the desired outcome we want in our project. Putting all these principles together is what will make a good design.
