We first took a look at some fantastic logo designs and it was amazing about how many actually had hidden messages in them that i never noticed, these are a few favourites of mine.
1) Bison logo

This one was my favourite when our tutor was showing the many logos. Everyone had their own favourites but this one was really impressive to me for the reason that it is what it is. It is simple and sends its message perfectly, The word is Bison and the animal is a bison.
2) EGO logo

Another one i really like is the ego logo. Our tutor did not show this one but i stumbled upon it later in the day while playing a game on my PS3. It is similar to the bison symbol as the word is in its logo. The letters e,g,o are found in the left, right and top respectively and it i in the shape of a smiling head.
Besides just being nice to look at, logos must have 5 basic functions. They must be simple, memorable, timeless, versatile and appropriate.
A simple logo is one that is recognizable and memorable. For example the apple logo, it is simple yet unique and distinguished.

A memorable logo is one that is simple to memorize. Like the McDonalds logo

A timeless logo is one that will still be valid and appropriate after a period of time. For example, the olympic flag was first presented in 1920 and is still valid today.

A logo must be versatile to work in all mediums.
And lastly a logo must be appropriate. For example the napster logo which shows exactly what it does, provide music.

All the logos mentioned above were not created in one day and that was emphasized by our tutor and then we were thought about the importance of sketching and the design process. Sketching is needed for
- Rapid concept development
- Basic composition or layout
- Client communication and approval
- Visual exploration
- Reļ¬ning visual solutions
Also sketching is vital in generating ideas and is a great way to edit them.
Reference have been made to notes on olive and some definitions have been used. All pictures are not mine and is used for reference.
